Baby vaccinations

Baby vaccinations

The vaccinations also called immunizations are very effective and give infants power to resist contagious and serious health conditions. This will protect the babies against many diseases such as tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, measles, mumps, polio virus, hepatitis B and Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria.This immunization and vaccination schedule may vary depending upon where you live, your child's health, the type of vaccine, and the vaccines available. Ask your doctor about which vaccines your child should receive. Check with your doctor or nurse to make sure your baby is getting immunized on time. Also make sure you ask your doctor or nurse to give you a record card with all the dates of your baby's shots and be sure to bring it to every visit.

Your baby need vaccinations or immunizations due to the following reasons. Vaccination is the administration of antigenic material in the infant's body. The importance of immunization is that it helps to protect the infant's body against any infectious disease. It offers the life- long protection and security to the infant against deadly diseases which might invade its body any time through out its life.

Your baby's vaccination and immunization schedule may recommend the following vaccines:

* Birth- Hepatitis B
* 1-2 months- hepatitis B
* 2 months- DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis) vaccine, Hib vaccine, polio vaccine, pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV)
* 4 months- DTaP, Hib vaccine, polio vaccine, PCV.
* 6 months- DTaP, Hib, polio (6-18 months), PCV, hepatitis B (6-18 months)
* 12 months- MMR (12-15 months), Hib (12-15 months), chicken pox (12-18 months), PCV (12-15 months)
* 15 months- DTap (12-18 months)

1. Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis Vaccines (DTaP): Diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis are serious diseases caused by bacteria. Diphtheria and Pertussis are spread from person to person. Tetanus enters the body through cuts or wounds.

Diphtheria causes a thick covering in the back of the throat and nose. It can lead to breathing problems, paralysis and heart attack.

Tetanus (Lockjaw) Vaccine: Tetanus causes painful tightening of the muscles, usually all over the body. It can lead to locking of the jaw so the baby cannot open his mouth or swallow.

Pertussis (Whooping Cough) vaccine: Pertussis causes coughing spells so bad that is hard for babies to eat, drink, or breathe. These spells can last for weeks. It can lead to pneumonia, seizures and brain damage.

Diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis vaccine (DTaP) can help prevent these diseases. Most babies who are vaccinated with DTaP will be protected throughout childhood.

Babies should get 5 doses of DTaP vaccine or immunization, one dose at each of the following ages:

* 2 months
* 4 months
* 6 months
* 15-18 months
* 4-6 years

About baby skin

Baby skin care
A baby’s skin is very sensitive. Before you use any baby linens or baby clothes for the first time, wash the items in a hypoallergenic detergent or soap formulated for babies. Also, use only soap or bath solution meant for babies when you bathe your infant. Adult products are too harsh for a young baby’s skin.

Babies don’t get very dirty, so you don’t need to bathe your baby every day if you keep the face, head and diaper area clean. Wipe your baby’s face and head gently with a soft, wet washcloth or dampened cotton balls. Be sure to get into all skin creases, especially where dribbled milk might collect. And clean your baby’s bottom well with each diaper change.

When dressing your baby, choose loose-fitting, soft garments and layer for warmth. Be sensitive to your baby’s environment, and be ready to peel off a layer or two when in a warm car, shop or restaurant.

If your baby has little pimples along skin folds, especially on the neck, back, shoulders, chest or diaper area, she may have prickly heat, which can be remedied by avoiding heat and humidity, administering cool baths and dressing her in light, loose clothing
1.Before and after carrying out any baby-care, especially cord care, it is important to wash hands thoroughly.

2. First baths will now be carried out using plain water and cotton wool. This will help to protect the delicate skin while it is vulnerable to germs, chemicals and water loss. A baby comb can be used to gently remove any debris from thick hair after delivery. Please bring a baby comb into hospital with you.

Baby food care

2 oz brown rice powder
8 fl oz water
a little formula/breastmilk

To make the rice powder, grind brown rice in a blender or food processor. This is best achieved by grinding in small quantities - and to make the powder REALLY fine, you might find a coffee grinder attachment useful (we use the Magic Bullet Blender which comes with regular blades AND a grinder, making it great for pureeing baby food AND for grinding grains).

You can use white rice if you prefer, but this page explains why brown rice is more nutritious.

Bring the water to a boil.

Add the rice powder, stirring constantly with a wire whisk.

Simmer for about 10 minutes (don't forget to keep stirring, or the rice will stick).

Then stir in enough formula or breastmilk to give the consistency that's best for your baby.

Once baby has been introduced to fruit, you could always add a little of his favourite puree.

A grain of rice is composed of several different layers. Only the outside layer, the 'hull', is removed during the production of brown rice and very little goodness is lost by the grain in the process.
But during the production of white rice, the grains are milled to remove more layers - the bran and almost all of the germ. This process strips the grains of the majority of their nutrients. In the final part of the process, another layer called 'aleurone' is removed and the grains are polished. But aleurone is a good source of essential fats, which play such an important role in your baby's diet.

Fruit baby food recipes - Delicious Baked Apples

Choose a nice sweet apple (those listed in the applesauce recipe above are ideal).
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F, 180 deg C.
Wash the apple and then remove the core (a melon baller is useful for this).
Sprinkle a little nutmeg or cinnamon over the apple, then fill the apple with raisins. You may like to add a drop of maple syrup, as the raisins may be quite tart.
Wrap the apple in aluminium foil and seal tightly.
Bake the apple for around 45 mins, until it feels nice and tender.
Remove from the oven and cool slightly, then remove the skin.
Mash or puree thoroughly and serve!

Fruit baby food recipes - Sugar Free Applesauce

4-5 medium apples, peeled and cored - use naturally sweet varieties, such as:
Gala
Golden or Red Delicious
Fuji
Pink Lady
Red Rome
pinch nutmeg or cinnamon
water

Chop the apples roughly and place in a saucepan.
Pour in about one inch of water - (you could use apple juice instead, but this will contain sugar).
Bring the apples to a boil, then reduce the heat.
Cover and simmer slowly until the apple chunks are tender (about 10-15 mins).
DON'T cook the apples to the point where the mixture actually looks like applesauce! Cooking it this long will cause it to be watery and tasteless.
Instead, remove the apple chunks from the pan and either puree them or mash them well. Thin with a little cooking water if necessary.
Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg and serve warm or - as a soothing treat for teething babies - nice and cold.http://babyhealthcenter.blogspot.com

Baby care-Baby teeth care

When your baby is only two months old, you should keep her gums healthy and clean. Gently wipe her gums with a wet, clean, soft cloth every day. The most important thing to remember is never to put your baby to bed with a bottle. In addition, never prop up the bottle at any time.
Any kind of drink except water can cause a baby's teeth to decay, even breast milk and infant formula. Other liquids that cause powdered fruit drinks, soda and juice. Any drink that contains sugar can cause tooth decay when your baby gets older.
A two-month-old baby should drink only breast milk, formula or water.
Here are some tips to follow to protect your baby's teeth:
Always hold your baby during feedings. Do not prop up the bottle or leave a bottle in your baby's bed.
If your baby needs a pacifier at bedtime, make sure it is clean and dry. Do not dip the pacifier in honey or sweet liquids. Your baby might like the sweet taste, but these liquids will cause tooth decay when her teeth come in. Germs in honey can also make a baby sick.

Hou to take care about your baby food

You may like to replace breast milk or formula milk with whole milk, when the child is one year old. Low fat or skim milk is not good for children as they need fat for grow .
Your child should be given fruits, vegetables, breads, grains, and the dairy products to ensure all nutrients. Give to eat them 4-5 times throughout the day, because toddlers and small children can not eat much at a time.
Follow the principles of the Food Guide Pyramid, portions and number of servings are less for children.
Opened baby food containers should be covered and stored in a refrigerator for not more than two days.Give only one new food at a time and watch for any allergic reactions.Avoid foods such as nuts, popcorn, potato chips, corn, grapes, raisins, etc. These foods may choke the baby
Do not give sweets or sweetened beverages as they contribute to tooth decay.
Do not give soft drinks, coffee, tea, and chocolate.
A child´s diet may be deficient in calcium, iron, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, and frolic acid. Healthy children should get all their nutrients from foods. Standard pediatric multi-vitamins may be given if your pediatrician recommends it.
Do not feed solids in a bottle.
Avoid giving bottle with milk or fruit juice to the baby lying in bed. This can develop nursing bottle mouth that may result in tooth decay.

baby care-Travel with your small baby

When traveling with your baby, the key to a successful trip is an informative guide Welcome to baby travel information. Were making it easy for parents to travel with babies, f you're a new parent, we suggest you think of your baby travel companion as someone who'll add a new dimension to your travel experiences. Be sure you calm down your expectations, set realistic goals, and take it nice 'n' easy. Here are some parent-tested suggestions for travelling with a baby.when traveling with your baby, the key to a successful trip is an informative guide Be flexible: Traveling with your small baby can be a wonderful experience — if you go with the flow. Too many new sights and sounds at once can overstimulate your baby, and toddlers get bored having to sit still or sightsee for long periods of time instead of being able to run around and explore at their own energetic pace. Keep your itinerary simple. Limit it to one baby travel activity a day and you'll find it much easier to make last-minute adjustments if your child gets tired or just wants to spend time splashing in the hotel's wading pool.

Baby food

Make sure to take along a supply of water, breast milk, or formula — and a bag of snacks, if your baby travel is eating solids — on any trip. Children can get dehydrated during a flight, and toddlers can't always wait for food service (or they refuse the airline meal when it arrives). Whether you're in the air or on the road, best bets for older babies include easy-to-pack snacks like jars of baby food, bags of whole grain cereal, small cartons of fruit juice.

Baby care-baby massage

baby massage

Since skin is the largest organ in the body, touch is extremely important. The following preparation and useful techniques can assist you in giving your precious baby a spa experience!

How to start

You will need: 2 soft towels, a clean diaper, natural baby massage oil & little baby! Begin the baby massage when you and your baby are in a relaxed, calm state. The best time is usually before your baby’s bath, at least a half hour after the baby has eaten. Sit comfortably on the floor with the soles of your feet together and form a diamond shape with your legs. Be sure to select a place without drafts and make sure the room temperature is a warm 78 degrees. Then drape a soft towel over your lap. Undress your baby, just leaving on a clean diaper and rest your baby on the towel over your legs so your baby will feel comfortable and secure. Cradle your baby’s head with your feet. Then put some baby massage oil on your clean hands and rub them together so they will be soft and warm before you start. Your baby will not be happy if he or she receives a massage from cold hands! Then using massage oil for baby, begin with long gentle strokes from your baby's head to his or her toes. If you find that your baby responds well to the massage, proceed to gently massage your baby’s body section by section. If your baby does not cooperate, simply massage him or her at another time.

While you massage your baby you may want to softly talk, hum, sing and/or play healing meditation music during the massage. To further bond with your baby, give your little one eye to eye contact during the baby massage.

Baby massage

best baby massage

Choose a moment in which you and your child are relaxed and calm. A half hour after the baby has eaten is recommended.

Be sure that the room temperature is warm (78 degrees Fahrenheit). Undress the baby completely, if the weather is cold or humid cover the areas of the baby's body that are not being massaged.

Put the baby on a soft surface so your baby will feel comfortable and secure. Keep some little pillows handy.

It is a good idea to put some cream on your hands and rub them together so they will be soft and warm.

Basically the massage flows from the head to the toes. With soft and gentle touches you will work on the head, face, shoulders, arms, chest, stomach and legs.

While you massage your baby look tenderly at him/her. Doing this you stimulate all the senses of the baby and establish a more intense visual and tactile communication. Feel free to speak to your baby, do not inhibit yourself.

Remember that your touches should be tender do not make mechanic motions. Try to be flexible by not keeping a rigid routine.

Healthy and nutrition food

To make your own baby food:Peel the fruits and vegetables, and remove the seeds. Also remove inedible or hard portions such as the stalk.
Apples, pears, carrots, cabbages and other harder foods may be softened by cooking. You can maintain the nutritional content of these foods by boiling or steaming them. Steaming is recommended since it preserves nutrients more efficiently.

Add a little boiled water to the ingredients you have and blend them into a paste or puree. Add adequate liquid to enable you to get a smoother, more liquid-like consistency in the beginning. Later, as your baby grows, you can lessen the quantity of water to make it harder. Once your baby is about 9 months old, you may also use milk instead of water as a base to blend the food.
Important Dos and don't s At this vulnerable age, your baby is easily susceptible to and diseases. Guard against a chance infection by maintaining a strict level of hygiene. Wash your hands thoroughly before handling your baby's food items or the utensils.

At this point there is no need to add sugar, salt, or any garnishing to your baby's food. Your baby may react adversely to even the slightest amount of spices, so it is important to avoid them. Do not give your baby food that is either too hot or too cold. Food which is slightly warmer than room temperature is ideal for your baby.

Do not heat your baby's food in a microwave, as this may cause the food to warm unevenly, causing some portions to overheat and leaving others cold.

When introducing solid food, at around six to seven months, this food will only complement the baby's regular feeds with breast milk or formula. Only after about a year or even longer, should the baby be completely transitioned to solid food.
